This is my way of paying a little tribute to one of my heroes and idols, John Wayne. Use this board for discussing all of his movies that spanned his long career in Hollywood. I will create polls for his more popular movies for you to vote in and then discuss the movie, tell why you like it or if you dislike it. If there is a movie that does not have a poll for it, please feel free to create it yourself.

If you look at the characters names and roles in there movies (some of my favorites) Fort Apache, She wore a Yellow Ribbon, and Rio Grande, there seems to be a lot of crossover. Anyone know why?

I don't know, just to sort of tie them all together. By the way, John Ford's U.S. Cavalry Trilogy was the very first film trilogy, pre-dating other famous trilogies (STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, BACK TO THE FUTURE) by at least 25 years. Was that a man of vision, or what?

Wayne was one of a kind.
My dad, while in the service during World War II, met Wayne and Ward Bond once -- the one time, he told me, he regretted not having his camera with him.

Wayne and Bond were drinking buddies, from what I've read about him...

Here´s a great story from Frank Zappa´s auto bio:
On Halloween night 1965 Wayne arrived at the Action night club in L.A. with a party, all very drunk. Zappa is sitting on the steps in front of the place (he was playing there) when Wayne grabs him, picks him up, starts slapping him on the back, shouts "I saw you in Egypt and you were great...and then you blew me!" Zappa takes an immediate dislike to Wayne. Later Zappa is on stage and announces: "Ladies and gentlemen, as you know it´s Halloween. We were going to have some important guests here tonight - we were expecting George Lincoln Rockwell, head of the American nazi party - unfortunately, he could´nt make it - but here´s John Wayne." Wayne gets up from his table, stumbles onto the dance floor and starts to make a speech. At that point one of his bodyguards grabs him and makes him sit down. Another bodyguard tells Zappa to cool it or he would be in BIG TROUBLE! At the end of Zappa´s show, the manager of the club tells Zappa "be nice to the Duke, because when he gets like this he starts throwing fifty-dollar bills around." On the way out Zappa has to pass Wayne´s table. Wayne gets up, smashes Zappa´s hat down on top of his head. Zappa takes the hat off and pops it back out. That annoys the Duke and he shouts "you don´t like the way I fix hats? I´ve been fixin´hats for forty years." Zappa puts the hat back on and Wayne smashes it down again. Zappa says to Wayne ""I´m not even gonna give you a chance to apologize." and walks out. ;D

Just got home from Wal-Mart and I was surprised to find almost an entire DVD section devoted to Wayne films. I owned almost all of them but it's sure good to see popularity is up.

Greg, how about doing a poll on DARK COMMAND, the rousing 1940 Civil War action film about Quantrill's raiders starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor, Walter Pidgeon and Roy Rogers?

Jack Edmondson did such a good impression of the Duke at Joan Headley's recent Alamo party that it was almost scary.

Jack Edmondson did such a good impression of the Duke at Joan Headley's recent Alamo party that it was almost scary. Before I read the caption you wrote, I thought to myself, "Oh look, a never before seen behind-the-scenes Duke Photo!" LOL Wow, he looks good doing that.
