JACKSON, THOMAS (?-1836). Thomas Jackson, Alamo defender, was born in Ireland. He settled in 1831 in Texas, where he registered for land in DeWitt's colonyqv on May 1. Jackson married Louise Cottle and was the father of four children. At the outbreak of the Texas Revolutionqv he was one of the "Old Eighteen,"qv the original defenders of the Gonzales cannon in the battle of Gonzales.qv He entered the Alamo with the relief force from Gonzales on March 1, 1836. Jackson died in the battle of the Alamoqv on March 6, 1836.
