Posted these on the other site a while ago. Was cleaning out my photobucket account for the upcoming Texas Trip and decided to post these before i deleted them. Part One: Encounter with a Hawk

I have my share of backyard squirrels, too. Cute little buggers.

What happened to the images, Greg? I hate seeing red "X"s in white boxes!

I just had the bejeebies scared out of me by a backyard hawk attack! I was leisurely watering the garden with my mind on onions, when, all of a sudden I heard the sound of wings whooshing through the overhead tree. It was a hawk, heading straight for me---or so I thought. For it sunk its tallons into an unfortunate mourning dove about a foot from my head and then soared up out of sight. Not something you're likely to see everyday, sitting at a computer.

I guess the pics got deleted over time from my photobucket account. I'll have to try and reload them. As for a hawk, we've had our share of attacks in our yard. Fast as lightning, they come out of nowhere....

More than once, these past two days, as I've been sitting here at the computer, this grey squirrel comes wandering by, then climbs my garden gate with a pecan in its clutches. I guess that this is its home.

Poor little critters. You want to save the reds, but at such a cost to the greys. Why not 'export' some of the greys to Ireland?

Nef, you have a pecan tree? yum.... Well, the neighbors do. And they actually brought me over a fresh baked pecan pie, too. It pays to have good neighbors---and, to be one.

You need to read the New Braunfels section, Mike. I retired in March, 2006 and moved to Texas in July, 2007.

I dont know if I've said this once before but all the people (with a small exception) on my block are weirdos. No one ever comes outside, except me (to play hockey, baseball, etc). If every neighbor I had died in their beds and were never found, I wouldnt even recognize a difference.

Then I would take it, you do not have a 4th of July block party, then?

That grey squirrel just sauntered by and up my gate with a pecan in it's mouth, again. I guess I will have to start calling her "Ol' Faithful".

Then I would take it, you do not have a 4th of July block party, then? Party? On our block the equivalent of a party is accidentaly saying "Good Afternoon" to someone on the way to the mail box.
