My brother emailed me this snippet of news from the Vatican:
[glow=red,2,300]The Pope is about to canonize several Saints. One of them is "Blessed Antonio de Santa Ana". So, once canonized, he will hence be known as "San Antonio de Santa Ana". It's got a nice ring to it, doesn't it?[/glow]
Hmm... I wonder what sort of relic they have on him, a wooden leg, perhaps?

Here's an article from the CATHOLIC WORLD NEWS, dated February 23, 2007. This gets even more ironic having a candidate for sainthood named Santa Ana get the nod on February 23rd!
Pope schedules 5 canonizations for May-June
Feb. 23, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) has approved the schedule for canonization of five new saints in May and June.
At a February 23 ordinary consistory-- a meeting of the cardinals present in Rome-- the Holy Father approved plans for the canonization of:
Blessed George Preca, a Maltese priest, Blessed Szymon of Lipnica, a Polish Franciscan priest, Blessed Charles of St. Andrew (Johannes Andreas Houben in secular life), a Dutch Passionist priest, Antonio de Santa Ana (Antonio Galvao de Fanca in secular life), a Brazilian Franciscan priest, and Marie Eugenie de Jesus (Anne-Marie Eugenie Milleret de Brou in secular life), the French foundress of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Pope Benedict will preside at the canonization of Blessed Antonio de Santa Ana on May 11, during his visit to Brazil. He will canonize the others during ceremonies to be held at the Vatican on June 3.
Since the start of his pontificate, Benedict XVI has indicated that he will not ordinarily preside at beatifications, leaving other prelates to lead those ceremonies, and allowing many beatifications to take place outside Rome in the candidate’s native region. However the Pope continues to preside at canonization ceremonies, to emphasize the solemnity of the declaration in which the Church declares a new saint.

Strange...
Think the pope knows about the 'Mo?

Strange... Think the pope knows about the 'Mo? Well, Pope John Paul did, anyway. I have a photo of him riding in the popemobile through Alamo Plaza on his September, 1987 Papal tour. I even braved a 100 degrees plus open-air Papal Mass that week and got sunstroke bad. Now, where do I keep those photos?

The Papal Mass Altar, set up in an open field, not far from town. Participants had to arrive by chartered busses.

Just some of the crowds at the Papal mass. There was no seating. Folks had to either sit on folding chairs, or else recline upon the ground. I sat upon some news- papers, feeling like some homeless person, while first aidworkers handed out gallon jugs of water to every- one.

Yes, I have. Thanks for taking the time to post them. It's amazing at how many people showed up. My Mom saw him when he came to New York City in the late eighties. I have pictures but I don't have a scanner. Maybe that would be a wise investment...

Even though I wasn't always in full agreement with his stances on certain issues, I liked John-Paul for his hard-nosed, no nonsense approach. He was a Pope of the people and visited more countries than any pope preceding him.
