1. I can't find a picture of, or reference to, a coin with Santa Anna's likeness on it, like the one Houston used to pay for his drink. Did one actually exist?
2. When the Texians were leaving the town to fort up in the Alamo, what were those huge baskets on some of the wagons? I've been to Mexico and never seen one that big...maybe they were full of the corn the defenders ate with their beef....?

As to the coin with Santa Anna's likeness, Frank Thompson says that it was but a figment of the script writer's poetic license. There never was such a coin. The only reason it was introduced into the film was to show the viewing audience that Santa Anna fancied himself the big he-bull, much like an earlier Julius Caesar.
I would have to go back and look at the baskets in question before I could comment on them.

I suspected as much about the coin, but it's always nice to know for sure. Thanks for the legwork.

As for those baskets, when thinking back to it, they looked an awful lot like a grain of some kind. Perhaps feed for the animals or maybe cornmeal for the men...
