The months of October, through April are important times in Texas history. While many try to attend the High Holy Days, in March, let's not be forgetting those "Low Holy Days", which include the battle of Gonzales, the capture of Goliad by Texian forces, the battle of Concepcion, the grass Fight and the siege of Bejar.
SALHA (San Antonio Living History Association) will be commemorating these events with living history reenactments and I will try to attend at least some of them, camera in hand.
I would particularly like to witness a reenactment of the battle of Concepcion, as that mission is still relatively remote from civilization and its battlefield, still more, or less, intact. Stay tuned.

Back from Bejar. A lot happened today around our favorite San Antonio mission. Aside from the SALHA reenactment of the commencement of the Alamo Siege, the City was holding the Houston Street Festival, sort of an open air arts and crafts market, with food and drink. Entering the Alamo grounds, I had the pleasant surprize of running into Jack Edmonson. Jack had participated in the candlelight tour of the Alamo just the previous night and was just paying his last respects to the Alamo before commencing his long journey home.

I wish that I had been able to attend the DRT sponsored candlelight tour of the Alamo grounds last night, but my sister and brother-in-law were visiting from out of town and had to leave for home early this morning. Jack said that as the tour group was guided around to different points in the compound, living historians put on little vignettes of the siege. Jeff Bearden did his bit as Davy Crockett by this 'little pile of sticks'.

Mike Waters appeared as Jim Bowie, while Jack himself played a lesser known Alamo defender. This portion of palisade was emplaced along the same lines as the original palisade.

During the commencement of the SALHA presentation, Davy Crockett gives his "Go to Hell" speech, while Travis, holding hat, looks on.
