With Rudy Robbins at his Bandera real estate office back in 2005. Rudy "It Do" Robbins" passed away at noon today after a long battle with stomach cancer. Many of you may remember Rudy as the Tennessean in John Wayne's THE ALAMO who, when asked, "Do this mean what I think it do?" would reply It do!" THE ALAMO was Rudy's first real break into show business. After filming wrapped, Rudy worked for a time at Alamo Village in Brackettville, site of the 1960 Alamo film. He later appeared in such films as TWO RODE TOGETHER, CHEYENNE AUTUMN, MCCLINTOCK, THE GREEN BERETS, and RIO LOBO. He also woked as a stuntman on such TV shows as DANIEL BOONE and GUNSMOKE. He even toured with Monty Montana and 125 other cowboys in a recreation of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show that played to packed houses in a worldwide tour. Rudy was also an accomplished singer and musician and formed the SPIRIT OF TEXAS band in 1991. The band recorded several albums. Later, Rudy promoted tourism in his adopted town of Bandera, Texas where he also opened a real estate office. That's where I first had the opportunity to meet him, back in March, 2005. Met up with him again on about a half a dozen more occasions, including one of the Waynamo filmfests held at Alamo Village that following October. Rudy was sitting inside the Cantina signing autographs and had a line out the door of folks waiting to see him. When my turn finally came in line, I didn't have to say a thing. "Why hello Ned! Rudy greeted me. He'd only met me once seven months prior and he still remembered me and my name. What a guy. Adios, Rudy. It Do!

I never met Rudy, but from everything I've heard, he was a fine man. Here are two photos I took of him at Alamo Village in October 2005.
