Here's a photo of Eric working on the painting, courtesy of Rod Tinamus, on the www.vonsworks.com site.

In checking out 'Eric Von Schmidt' on eBay, I noticed that, aside from a signed 1986 copy of his Smithsonian article on the Alamo painting and several music LPs and CDs there are also quite a few books illustrated by him. Well done, Eric.

Eric Von Schmidt stands by the palisade in Alamo Village, March 8, 1986. (That's Kevin Young, directly below him, with Daniel and Charlie Morfin along side Dan Gagliasso. On the right, looking at the camera is Dave Lyons.)

For those of you who missed it the first time around...for those of you who saw it and can't forget! NED'S SESQUICENTENNIAL JOURNAL! (Now, try spelling that, without looking it up!)

The Morfin Family: Charlie, "Little" Charlie (with rifles)and Daniel (with red scarf), at the Alamo for the Sesquicentennial celebrations, March 6, 1986. While Charlie portrayed Gregorio Esparza, son Daniel portrayed Enrique. Son Charlie Jr. was Galba Fuqua. Both Charlie and "Little" Charlie went on to participate in the filming of GONE TO TEXAS and ALAMO, THE PRICE OF FREEDOM. The Morfins today: Charlie, "Little" Charlie and Daniel, with his new bride. Suddenly, I feel old.

so Alamo runs in the veins of the Morfin family. Good thing it is´nt morphine - Sorry, could´nt resist the pun... They did have that back then, didn't they? Yes, they did. Morphine was created out of opium in 1804. Named after the greek God of dreams, Morpheus. I´m not sure how easy it was to get hold of in Texas back then, but they had opium for sure. Opium was often referred to as Laudanum in those days. Laudanum was one of the opium brands sold back then. In the civil war´s series North and South, one of the lead characters, Orry Main (Patrick Swaytze), has a girlfriend hooked on Laudanum.
