How many of you out there collect Alamo playsets? Ever seen this one? Probably not---because it's never existed. It is an artist's conception of what the John Wayne "The Alamo" playset might've looked, had anyone thought to have one made, back in 1960. The artist is selling the one of a kind empty box-art for $300.00, over on ebay. when I posted this image over on that OTHER Alamo website recently, no one on the messageboard even batted an eye. But now YOU know! P.S. I sure wish there had been a Waynamo playset...I would've bought one anyhow!

I remember my Dad getting me the play set (with Fess Parker as Davy) back in the mid 70's. He got me three sets from Sears for about $12.00 a peace and it kept me out of trouble for hours and hours.
If i still had them, they might bring a pretty penny now..

I remember I got an original Marx set based on Disneys Crockett for Christmas way back in 1955 or so. Like Bromhead said, it had a Davy Crockett figure that looked like Fess Parker. All the rest were just frontiersman they used back then plus, a bunch of Mexican soldiers all done in sort of a bluish color. Instead of a cannon though, I got what looked like a futuristic three barreled rocket launcher. Someone made a mistake. Plus, on the main gate wall, it said, "The Official Walt Disney Davy Crockett At the Alamo". I think I kept it around for a few years but, as with all kids stuff, it got moved aside and then eventually gotten rid of. Years later, I got my oldest son the version that Sears sold. He wasn't that impressed by it but, did play with it a little. I guess I got more to recapture my own youth. A few years back, my youngest got me one of those playsets from somewhere, I forget. Now, my grandson plays with it sometimes, when he comes over. Someday, when he's old enough to understand, I'll educate him on the Alamo like I did with my sons, who all keep that part of history in the back of their minds.

I got one of the original Marx playsets back around '55 (age 8). The disappointment was that I only got about 10 Mexican soldatos and about 25-30 defenders. I had to trade for more to build up that army. When Marx came out with the West Point set a couple years later, I used them to build up that army. When I was around 10 or 11, I started to paint them to make them more realistic. I took that up as a hobby again, somewhat sporadically, about 10 years ago. I would love to get back to it.
